First, total meal carb load dominates: meals with ≥60g of carbs spike 56% higher than the low-carb baseline (n=2,303, p<0.001), and very heavy meals (110g+ carbs) average +48.9 mg/dL — a 72% escalation. Second, high-sugar meal context (≥20g sugar) raises the peak ~40% (n=4,519, p<0.001). Third, the chocolate-dipped form adds +1.7 mg/dL across 856 logs. These effects are observational from matched-pair Welch's t-tests, not controlled trials.
This page is grounded in 13,578 logged meals containing mandarins (clementines, cuties, satsumas, or tangerines) from 4,242 unique Signos members, captured through the Signos production PPGR cohort. The page-primary cohort is the single-item cut: 3,132 meals where a mandarin was logged alone, from 1,814 unique members, with a mean peak of +29.0 mg/dL, median +26 mg/dL, and IQR p25 +15 / p75 +39 mg/dL. Data was filtered to meals with a measured glucose rise between 0 and 100 mg/dL (ppgr_case='regular') to exclude outliers and sensor artifacts. Statistical comparisons between modifier groups use Welch's t-test on matched pairs; all effects reported at p<0.05 minimum, with the dominant modifiers reaching p<0.001. Mandarin logs were identified via a regex cohort match on "mandarin", "clementine", "satsuma", "tangerine", and "cuties". Mandarin chicken (the Chinese restaurant dish) is explicitly excluded — it's a distinct food category. A minimum of 100 matched meals was required for any modifier to appear in the recipe builder; mandarin juice is included at low confidence due to its n=39 sub-sample, flagged accordingly in the calculator.
