Context is the biggest lever: poured on cereal, the average jumps to +42.4 mg/dL (n=1,809); stirred into coffee, it stays at +28.0 mg/dL (n=7,446). Total carb load at the meal level drives the escalation — at 110g+ carbs, peaks hit +47.8 mg/dL vs. +25.3 mg/dL for light builds. These are observational findings, not causal.

Whole milk's glucose profile is shaped primarily by fat content. The roughly 8g of fat per cup slows gastric emptying and blunts the rate at which lactose — milk's ~12g-per-cup carbohydrate — is absorbed into the bloodstream. Across 2,341 single-item logs, the average glucose peak was +24.5 mg/dL, with 48.6% of responses in the low-spike tier. The two biggest levers in the broader dataset are carb load and sugar content: meals with ≥60g total carbs spiked 67.7% above the light baseline (p<0.001, n=6,461), while high-sugar meals (≥20g sugar, n=12,351) spiked 47% higher. Whole milk itself is a modest contributor — what surrounds it on the plate determines where the peak lands. All modifier effects are observational, not established as causal.
This page draws on Signos production CGM data logged between March 2025 and April 2026, covering 40,487 meals containing whole milk across 8,024 unique members (broader cohort), with a single-item sub-cohort of 2,341 meals (1,193 unique members) where whole milk was logged without other foods. Statistical comparisons use Welch's t-test on matched pairs; all modifier effects cited carry p<0.001 unless noted otherwise. Cohort filtering restricts to meals with a measured glucose rise between 0 and 100 mg/dL (ppgr_case='regular'). We report mean peak glucose rise; the distribution is right-skewed and the single-item median is +21 mg/dL vs. a mean of +24.5 mg/dL. Whole milk logs were identified via regex matching on logged food names. A minimum group threshold of 30 matched meals is required for any modifier to appear in the calculator; high-confidence threshold is ≥500 logs.
