Methodology

This page draws on 4,947 single-item bacon logs (meals where bacon was logged alone, no pairings) from 2,639 unique Signos members, plus a broader 99,637-meal cohort spanning all meal contexts where bacon appeared, collected through the Signos production CGM platform. Data were filtered to postprandial glucose responses (PPGR) between 0 and 100 mg/dL to exclude sensor artifacts and implausible readings. Modifier effects were estimated using Welch's t-test on matched pairs against a defined baseline; all reported effects carry p<0.001 unless noted. The carb-pair slot uses a no-carb baseline of n=71,216 meals (meals that did not match any carb-pairing regex). The protein-pair slot uses a no-co-protein baseline of n=19,989 meals. Any pairing slot requires at least 100 matched meals before it appears in the recipe builder. Canadian bacon and bacon-flavored bits were excluded from the cohort by design — this page measures strip bacon only.

Limitations

  • Self-reported portion sizes introduce measurement error — 'bacon' in a member log may range from 1 strip to a full side, affecting per-serving spike estimates.
  • Cohort skews health-motivated; Signos members actively tracking glucose tend to eat more mindfully than the general population, so real-world average spikes may differ.
