Blueberries carry a published GI of 43 and a GL of 12 — solidly low-glycemic — and their +31.2 mg/dL average across 8,001 single-item logs lines up with that classification. The bigger story in the Signos cohort is what gets logged alongside them: meals with ≥60g of carbs ran 43.7% higher than the low-carb baseline (p<0.001), and the carb-bucket analysis shows a near-linear escalation from +27.1 mg/dL in light (0–40g carb) meals up to +45.1 mg/dL in very-heavy (110g+) meals — a 66% jump. Two protective levers pulled in the opposite direction: protein pairings ≥15g cut the response by 14.5% (n=63,863, p<0.001) and high-fat pairings ≥15g trimmed it by 7.9% (n=46,957). The pattern is observational, not yet causal, but it's consistent with protein and fat slowing gastric emptying around the berry's own fast-digest sugars.
This page draws on 8,001 single-item Blueberries logs (meals where blueberries were logged alone, no pairings) from 4,075 unique Signos members, plus a broader 94,397-meal cohort spanning 14,663 members where blueberries appeared in any meal context, collected through the Signos production CGM platform between March 2025 and April 2026. Data were filtered to postprandial glucose responses (PPGR) between 0 and 100 mg/dL to exclude sensor artifacts and implausible readings. Modifier effects were estimated using Welch's t-test on matched pairs against a defined baseline; all reported effects carry p<0.001 unless noted. We report mean glucose peak across a right-skewed distribution — the median single-item spike of +27 mg/dL is a few mg/dL lower than the mean of +31.2 mg/dL, which is typical for this type of data. The food was identified in member logs using a regex that matched "blueberry" or "blueberries" as a primary ingredient, excluding compound dishes (blueberry muffin, blueberry pie, blueberry pancake, blueberry jam) where blueberries were a minor component. Any carb-pair pairing slot requires at least 100 matched meals before it appears in the recipe builder.
