In our cohort of 269 single-item fresh-fig logs the average peak was +35.8 mg/dL, slightly higher than what GL 3 alone would predict, which is consistent with the way one fig is rarely eaten on a truly empty stomach in real-world logs. The dominant levers measured at the meal level are total carb load (≥60g lifted peaks 28%, n=503, p<0.001) and total sugar content (≥20g lifted peaks 23%, n=1,018, p<0.001) — both observational, not yet causal. The fat-and-protein pairings that define the cohort's signature use of figs (cheese, charcuterie, prosciutto) showed no measurable spike penalty in 581+ matched logs, consistent with the mechanism of fat and protein slowing gastric emptying and blunting the small carb load from one fresh fig.
This page draws on 269 single-item fresh-fig logs (meals where figs were logged alone) and a broader 2,123-meal cohort spanning all meal contexts where fresh figs appeared, from 943 unique Signos members, collected through the Signos production CGM platform. Dried figs were excluded from the cohort and warrant their own atlas page (GI 70 / GL 21 vs. fresh at GI 25 / GL 3). Data were filtered to postprandial glucose responses (PPGR) between 0 and 100 mg/dL to exclude sensor artifacts. Modifier effects were estimated using Welch's t-test on matched pairs against a defined baseline; reported effects carry p<0.001 unless noted. The food was identified using a regex matching "fig" or "figs" with explicit exclusions for dried figs, fig newtons, fig bars, and fig leaves. Any pairing slot requires at least 30 matched meals before publishing.
