Methodology

This page draws on 44,413 smoothie logs from 7,288 unique Signos members, collected through the Signos production CGM platform. Data were filtered to postprandial glucose responses (PPGR) between 0 and 100 mg/dL to exclude sensor artifacts and implausible readings. The form slot reflects a sub-cohort of 11,883 logs where the smoothie was the primary item; absolute means in the form slot use that as the comparison baseline. Modifier effects were estimated using Welch's t-test on matched pairs against a defined baseline; all reported effects carry p<0.001 unless noted. We report mean glucose peak across a right-skewed distribution — the median single-item spike of +20 mg/dL is meaningfully lower than the mean of +25.8 mg/dL, which is typical for postprandial data. The food was identified in member logs using a regex matching "smoothie" or "shake" as a primary ingredient, excluding milkshakes and protein shakes (which have their own atlas page). Any carb-pair sub-cohort requires at least 100 matched meals before it appears in the recipe builder.

Limitations

  • Self-reported portion sizes introduce measurement error — a logged "smoothie" may range from a 12 oz home build to a 32 oz commercial cup, which materially affects peak estimates.
  • Cohort skews health-motivated; Signos members tracking glucose tend to build more protein-forward smoothies than the general population, so cohort means may underestimate fruit-only spikes in the wild.
